5 Reasons to Come to the Girls With Impact Reunion

It’s officially mid-summer. Somewhere between the long-summer days and hangouts with friends, you realize that school starts in just over a month. Your heart begins to pound as you think about all you had wished to accomplish for your Girls With Impact Venture and your professional skills in general.

Don’t worry – we’ve all been there.

You’ll be happy to hear we’re having our 2nd annual GIrls With Impact Reunion on July 30th between 9am-12pm. Here you can reconnect with peers and find the inspiration needed to make the most out of the remainder of the summer. Plus, with networking and internship opportunities, you may find the impacts of the reunion will last far past the summer.

If that’s not enough, here are 5 reasons why you should come to the GWI Reunion.

1. Strengthen and grow your network

Did you know that in 2016 70% of people hired had a connection to the company?

But how exactly do you make a network? Especially when you’re still in high school? Well, as a Girls With Impact graduate, you pretty much already have a built-in network– you just have to make the most of it. And trust us, these aren’t just any individuals in the field. Your network of built-in mentors and coaches have a passion for empowering our graduates to succeed. Plus they have the background to make it happen.

Even if you aren’t looking to get a job, the connections that you make now could be the mentors who help you figure out your college major, land your first internship, and navigate your career path.

2. Learn from professionals and alumni in fields you want to enter

Amongst our list of inspiring speakers is the founder of Good Trouble Productions, and ABC Veteran Journalist, Reena Ninan, is joining us as a speaker.

Good Troubles Productions is inspired by civil rights leader John Lewis – who frequently referenced the need for “good trouble” in pushing for progress. Ninan has been able to apply a passion for social justice into her career through entrepreneurship – a feat that many of our graduates aspire towards.

Outside of Reena, you’ll be hearing from fellow alumni. This means you can get a personal understanding of how they have built their ventures, leveraged GWI for college scholarships, and how they’ve translated their passions into a future career.

3. Find a peer mentor, or become a mentor yourself

With plenty of time for networking, you will have a chance to meet the GWI students outside of your graduating class.

While having a mentor who is already in the business world is incredibly valuable, it is equally important to have a strong peer network. These are the women who you will professionally grow up with, and can provide you with advice that is rooted in complete relatability.

Plus, we’re positive that your network of GWI graduates will turn out to be the next generation of corner-office CEO’s.

4. A Linkedin glow-up

LinkedIn is an absolute game changer for college applications, internships, and your career.

Starting your LinkedIn early means that people can truly watch your growth and development through your profile. Plus, it’s a great way to take conversations around Girls With Impact projects and translate them into a long-term connection on your network.

During our reunion we’ll include plenty of LinkedIn support, you’ll be able to:

  • Learn how to properly set up and navigate Linkedin

  • Start networking with executives via guided Linkedin messaging

  • Get the chance to have your Linkedin profile picture taken

5. Explore internship opportunities

With GWI’s strong network comes a direct talent pipeline of employers.

At our reunion you’ll be able to network with key Girls With Impact partners and potential mentors who could plug you into career-changing opportunities. Even if you aren’t looking for an internship, it is always great to learn about potential areas of interest and make connections early!
