We are approaching an historic election year. However, the voting process can be daunting and overwhelming, especially if you’re a first-time voter! Below, we are recapping some of the key things all first-time voters should know, plus additional resources to help you navigate the polls.

  1. Register to Vote: The first thing you have to do is register. Visit Vote411 and register via their very simple and easy online system. Today is also National Voter Registration Day where you can find out more info about requesting a mail-in ballot and organizations to support or join. Also, make sure that you understand the Absentee Ballot Process in your state which all voters are allowed to do in light of COVID-19. The absentee ballot application must be postmarked by election day, and received by November 10th to be counted.

  2. Research all the candidates: This year, you will not only vote for a new President but District Attorneys, Supreme Court District, Family Court Judges and much more! Visit Your Voters Guide for more info on the specific who are running in your area.

  3. Prioritize your list of wants: Create a list of your values and what’s important to you. This will help you to hone in on what candidates also support what you believe in such as healthcare, climate issues, BLM, LGBTQ issues, and more.

  4. Find your polling place: It is critical to know where you are going on Election Day. First-time voters can enter their address into this a dashboard to find a nearby polling place. Every state has different polling machines, so it’s important to have a better understanding of that before you vote as well as their COVID-19 guidelines.
